Hogue Landscape Services Earns Two Honorable Mentions at the 2026 PaperCity Design Awards Houston

On the evening of May 26, the Grande Ballroom at The Houstonian filled with the people who shape how this city looks and lives outdoors: architects, interior designers, and landscape architects, for the 2026 PaperCity Design Awards Houston. We're glad to share that two Hogue Landscape Services projects came away with Honorable Mentions: one in residential landscape design, one in commercial.

The PaperCity Design Awards are among the most closely watched design honors in Texas. This year's program drew hundreds of submissions across 20 categories, judged by a panel of 24 architects and designers from Houston and beyond, with internationally recognized interior designer Corey Damen Jenkins serving as master of ceremonies. Winning projects and honorable mentions will be featured in the October 2026 print issue of PaperCity Houston.

The Projects Behind the Recognition

A Rainforest Reimagined: Bringing Art to Life at Rienzi- Executed under an accelerated timeline, the entire installation was completed in just four days in preparation for Houston’s Azalea Trail. This required close collaboration between designers, landscape crews, and specialty growers to source and install plant material not typically available in the region. Read more here.

Resilience on the Bayou: Engineering Beauty Against the Elements- Flooding remains an ever-present threat. When rising waters displaced entire sections of planting, the landscape had to be reset, cleaned, restored, and reestablished with seamless continuity. Even invasive species carried in by floodwaters were eradicated and replaced with precision, preserving the integrity of the design. Read more here.

Specifics like these are why the awards matter to us. They aren't recognition of a single drawing, they reflect years of work by the people who turned an idea into something that's actually rooted in the ground and thriving.

Two Decades of Building Outdoor Spaces in Houston

For more than twenty years, Hogue Landscape Services has worked alongside homeowners, architects, and builders to design and care for landscapes across the city, from historic lots in The Heights to estate properties in River Oaks and Memorial, to commercial campuses that have to look composed every single day of the year. We handle the full arc of a project: landscape design, construction, horticulture, irrigation, and the ongoing maintenance that decides whether a garden looks better in year five than it did on day one.

Designing for the Way Houston Actually Grows

Good landscape work here isn't only a matter of taste. Gulf Coast heat, gumbo clay, sudden downpours, and the occasional hurricane all have opinions about what survives. A design that ignores drainage, soil, and the realities of a Houston summer photographs beautifully and then struggles by August. So we plan for the long game, choosing plants that belong here, building grades and beds that move water where it should go, and returning season after season to keep everything healthy.

An Honorable Mention from PaperCity means something to us precisely because the jury weighs both halves of that equation: the idea and the execution, the rendering and the living landscape it became.

Thank You

We're grateful to PaperCity and this year's jury, to the clients who trusted us with their properties, and to the designers, installation crews, horticulturists, and maintenance team whose craft earned this recognition. We were honored to be counted among so many of Houston's finest architects and designers, and we send our congratulations to every firm and project recognized this year.

If you're planning a project in Houston — or in River Oaks, Memorial, Bellaire, West University, The Heights, or a neighboring community — we'd love to talk.
